Mysterious New Science Mentioned at Founding of Movement

In 2005, an open letter from a concerned citizen to a school board pushed for equal time to be given to three theories in public school science classes. The letter spawned "a social movement that promotes a light-hearted view of religion and opposes the teaching of intelligent design and creationism in public schools." The movement has since gained followers in many countries around the world.

The main theory put up was about a spaghetti-like deity to go in opposition to Intelligent Design which was promoting the Christian view of Creation. The movement became known as Pastafarianism which entailed some sort of belief [or not] in the Flying Spaghetti Monster (known as FSM) and is the deity of the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster.

The "Flying Spaghetti Monster" was first described in a satirical open letter written by Bobby Henderson in 2005 to protest the Kansas State Board of Education decision to permit teaching intelligent design as an alternative to evolution in public school science classes. In the letter, Henderson demanded equal time in science classrooms for "Flying Spaghetti Monsterism", alongside intelligent design and evolution.[1] After Henderson published the letter on his website, the Flying Spaghetti Monster rapidly became an Internet phenomenon and a symbol of opposition to the teaching of intelligent design in public schools.

1. I question this below.

His letter started out mentioning Intelligent Design and Evolution, then his new FSM along with the other two theories. He then rambled on for a few paragraphs going through some of his strange beliefs with respect to his FSM theology and pirate data before finally closing. His conclusion was a strong plea to the school board hoping not to threaten legal action if they would accept his proposal for equal time teaching of the three theories he was pushing for.

But it is at this point that he took a completely bizarre turn and introduced an entirely different theory which was mentioned nowhere else in his letter as one of the three theories to be taught!

In conclusion, thank you for taking the time to hear our views and beliefs. I hope I was able to convey the importance of teaching this theory to your students. We will of course be able to train the teachers in this alternate theory. I am eagerly awaiting your response, and hope dearly that no legal action will need to be taken. I think we can all look forward to the time when these three theories are given equal time in our science classrooms across the country, and eventually the world; One third time for Intelligent Design, one third time for Flying Spaghetti Monsterism (Pastafarianism), and one third time for logical conjecture based on overwhelming observable evidence.

Sincerely Yours,
Bobby Henderson, concerned citizen.

One third time for Intelligent Design, one third time for Flying Spaghetti Monsterism (Pastafarianism), and one third time for logical conjecture based on overwhelming observable evidence.

Mr Henderson did not elucidate on just what this new mysterious science theory was called, but whatever it was, it was definitely not Evolution.
